Council, tip or us
Epping Forest District Council will collect up to 10 bulky items from your boundary, for between £34.80 and £69.60 as published on 15 October 2026, as long as each item can be carried by 2 people. It will not take garden waste, building waste or the contents of a clearance. On the same date, Love Essex listed the Essex County Council recycling centres at Waltham Abbey and Chigwell as taking no van bookings, and no Essex County Council centre takes trade waste.
That leaves plenty of jobs with nowhere obvious to go, like the shed you have just taken down or a garage full of old furniture. For those, Epping Forest District Council points residents to the Environment Agency register of waste carriers instead.

Yes. Under section 34(2A) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, householders must take reasonable steps to check that anyone other than the council who takes their household waste is authorised to carry it. Councils can issue a fixed penalty when they are not, and each council sets its own amount. Ask any waste clearance firm for its waste carrier number and look it up on the Environment Agency public register before anything is loaded. A garden clear out goes on the van like any other load. Epping Forest District Council charges £60 a year for its garden waste bin, as published on 15 October 2026, which suits regular clippings, but its special collection takes no soil, cut down trees or fence panels. Single items are fine, and we carry them out from inside the house. The Epping Forest District Council special collection, as published on 15 October 2026, takes items like these for £34.80 for 1 to 3, but only from your boundary by 6.30am and never from a garage or a covered store.
